Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Purplestone Mall ("Purplestone", "we", "us") collects when you use purplestone.shop and the Purplestone Android app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Purplestone is operated by Purplestone Mall, Lekki Phase 1, Nigeria. We handle your information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Information you give us

• Account details: your name, email address, phone number and password (we store only a scrambled version of your password, never the password itself).
• Delivery details: your address, city and state when you place an order.
• Orders: what you bought, prices, delivery status and any notes you add.
• Reviews: the rating and comments you leave on products or sellers. Your first name is shown with your review.
• Messages: what you send us on WhatsApp, through our contact form, or to the shopping assistant on our site.
• Sellers: if you sell on Purplestone, your store name, owner name, phone number, email, store description and the products you list.

Information collected automatically

• Device and usage information: pages you visit, products you view, what you add to your cart, your browser or device type, and your IP address. We use this to run the shop, prevent fraud and understand what customers like.
• Cookies: small files that keep you logged in, remember your cart and measure visits. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but parts of the shop (such as the cart and login) may stop working.

Payments

Card and bank payments are handled by our payment partners, Paystack and Flutterwave. You enter your card details on their secure pages, and we never see or store your full card number or PIN. We receive confirmation of the payment, the amount and a transaction reference.

Signing in with Google

If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and a Google account ID with us so we can create or open your Purplestone account. We do not get your Google password or access to your Gmail, contacts or files.

Fingerprint and face login

If you turn on fingerprint or face login, your fingerprint or face never leaves your phone. Your phone only sends us a security key that proves it is you. You can turn this off at any time in My account.

How we use your information

• To process and deliver your orders, and to send order confirmations and delivery updates.
• To create and manage your account, including confirming your email address.
• To answer your questions and resolve complaints, returns and refunds.
• To send you reminders about items left in your cart, and news, offers and product picks by email or notification, if you have not opted out.
• To keep the shop safe, prevent fraud and fake accounts, and fix problems.
• To understand how the shop is used and improve it.
• To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed to run the shop:

• Sellers on Purplestone receive the name, phone number and delivery address needed to fulfil your order.
• Delivery and logistics partners receive your name, phone number and address to deliver your order.
• Payment partners (Paystack and Flutterwave) process your payment.
• Service providers that help us run the shop, such as our web hosting and email provider, and Anthropic, which powers the shopping assistant (only the messages you type into the assistant are sent to it).
• Advertising and analytics partners: we use Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel to measure visits and the results of our ads. They may use cookies and receive information such as pages viewed and purchases made, but not your name, phone number or payment details.
• Authorities, when the law requires it, or to protect our customers, sellers or Purplestone from fraud or harm.

Some of these providers store information on servers outside Nigeria. Where that happens, we rely on their security and privacy commitments to keep your information protected.

Marketing emails and notifications

Every marketing email has an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. Once you unsubscribe, we stop sending you offers and news, but you will still receive emails about orders you place. You can turn off push notifications at any time from the menu on the site, in My account, or in your phone's settings.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. We keep order and payment records for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, usually six years. Abandoned cart information is deleted after 90 days, and visit statistics after one year. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove or anonymise your personal information, except what we must keep by law.

Keeping it safe

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, store passwords in scrambled form, limit who on our team can see customer information, and give staff only the access their job needs. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else, and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
• correct information that is wrong or out of date;
• delete your information or close your account;
• stop using your information for marketing;
• move your information to another service, where possible.

To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with how we handled your information, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).

Children

Purplestone is not meant for children under 18 to use on their own. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and if the changes are important we will let you know by email or on the site.
